I took today as an "active rest" day. Before I left work, I took myself through the classic CrossFit warm-up and got a good sweat going. Then I followed up with a mellow 2500m row. It was a good way to give the body a day off from intense met-con or max effort work but still get moving.
Then I finished my day at Jogo to coach for one class. I got a chance to work with Ben K who, like many of us, has had his fitness and health revolutionized by CrossFit. He wanted to go after some snatch work which I was all about, I love the olympic lifts.
He worked hard @ catching the weight full-depth with knees out, heels flat, and shoulders high in the ears. It was a great effort after an already taxing WOD focused on core. Even though he was fatigued, he grunted out some tough attempts and really improved his technique over the course of 20 minutes, finishing strong. As he continues to refine his ability for the snatch, look for Ben K to throw some big numbers up there.
This one's for you Ben. Here's a video from 2005 of a 210kg snatch (462#). Poor quality video but good enough to see how amazing it is. The man in the video is Hossein Resasadeh and he holds the official world record in the clean and jerk. Here's another video of him setting that world record @ 263.5kg (580#). Amazing. And one more of him training his front squat. He makes 280kg (617#) look like he's doing the bar. Absolutely insane. I wonder, though, how man burpees he could do?
